AO - blue in Japanese - is a series of memories and reflections on Japan. These riso prints combine my illustrations with photographs I took during my travels in Japan to create vivid dreamscapes. Japan is a place I hold dear yet also confounds me and which I cannot seem to fully grasp. When I think of Japan it's in hazy blue colors, like a fleeting dream or the buzzing neon sign of a konbini at night.
Like Rebecca Solnit writes in A field guide to getting lost "a deeper, dreamier, melancholy blue, the blue at the farthest reaches of the places where you see for miles, the blue of distance."
